Are you ready for some Football?
You know how a certain smell can bring you back to a past moment in your life? Well, for me, just hearing Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth talk, instantly transports me back to football. Thursday night, they opened the season with the Seattle Seahawks and the Green Bay Packers. I’m not partial to either team, but I think a city whose fans wear a huge hunk of cheese on their head deserves to win! (Alas the Seahawks seemed to disagree…)
Naturally, the Hubs and I root for different teams, and not just any teams, but rival teams! I have been an Eagles fan my whole life (insert pity here) and he is a Cowgirls (aka Cowboys) fan. As you can imagine, football season in our house is FUN!! Any who, Thursday night we decided to root for the same team, Team Tillman.
Despite having never run more than a 5K before June 2013, the hubs is now training for his first Marathon. His journey has been a slightly rocky one, but on October 12, 2014 he will toe the line at the Chicago Marathon!! He’s chosen to run for the Pat Tillman Foundation. Pat Tillman was a professional football player on the Arizona Cardinals, who gave up his NFL contract in 2002 to join the US Army. In 2004 he was killed while serving in Afghanistan. The Pat Tillman Foundation provides educational scholarships and support for veterans and their families to reach their fullest potential as leaders. I’m not only proud of Mr. B. for taking on the challange of running a marathon but for also choosing a fundraising team that he feels so passionate about.
September not only brings back football but also Dessert Fridays! We took a short hiatus for the summer but we’re back and have added some new people. We now have a group of about 14 who alternate bringing in dessert (homemade or not) every Friday. It’s not quite officially fall yet, so I wanted to stay away from apple or pumpkin. I chose to make a Cream Cheese Coffee Cake with Cinnamon Streusel from the Shugary Sweets blog. It was a little messy, but it was quite the hit. What I didn’t tell them was that I actually ran out of all purpose flour (for the first time in my life) so I had to sub in some whole wheat flour and no one even noticed. Making dessert Friday healthier one whole grain at a time!
