Heartbreak Hill

March 8, 2014 Off By mkelly

For the first time in weeks I woke up and my knee felt normal. Not stiff, no pain, and I could walk up and down stairs like a normal person. That coupled with the fact that the sun was shinning and the temp was above freezing seemed like a good sign for my 13 miler in the Newton Hills.

Most marathoners have heard about heartbreak hill. It’s a long steady hill along the marathon course around mile 21. Today’s run started there, went to Kenmore Square and back. The hill is not so bad on fresh legs, hopefully it doesn’t seem so bad on race day!!

We run the course week after week, but today was especially emotional for me. Running up Beacon towards Kenmore and seeing the Citgo sign and the Pru, it makes you remember what all this training is for. Once you reach Kenmore there is about a mile to go and I can’t even begin to imagine what that’s going to be like on April 21st, but I CAN’T wait!!!
