1 Week To Go

April 6, 2014 Off By mkelly

So its been about 2 weeks since I’ve posted, to be honest the emotion of the anniversary and the event itself has been a little too much at times.  It’s very hard to avoid especially while living in Boston, but we are taking it one day at a time.

This past weekend was an emotional one, but it was also mixed with some amazing events and some pretty special people.  Saturday morning my friends and I were part of a special photo shoot for the upcoming cover of Sports Illustrated!!  While we will probably be very small specs in the photo, it was an amazing thing to be a part of.  Surviors, runners, first responders and Bostonians coming together to show the world that we are truly Boston Strong.

While there, ladies from the Old South Church were handing out scarves to the runners.  They were part of the Marathon Scarf Project.  Scarves have been knitted by people across the globe and sent here to Boston to be given to us as a sign of love and courage.  My scarf came from Dee of Stoughton MA, which was quite fitting as my family has been calling me Dee since my brother gave me the nickname almost 30 years ago!

Sunday kicked off the final stages of the One Run for Boston 2 Relay.  The relay started on March 16th in Santa Monica, CA.  It ran it’s way through 14 states and just over 3328 miles to end here in Boston.  I ran stage 336, the last 6.5 miles of the relay ending at the Marathon finish line.  It was extremely emotional yet amazing at the same time.  Watching some of the survivors like John Odom and Heather Abbott walk across that finish line was awe inspiring.  These are the people we are running for and it was awesome to see how far they have come!
