Week 13

So are we all over this polar vortex thing already?  I should have known that the minute I agreed to run Boston that this was going to be the coldest, snowiest winter ever.

Despite the cold, I still went to Marathon Sports run club.  Another 8 miles in a -2F windchill.  The wind off the Charles River was brutal. I thought I might lose my lips in that last mile.  The reward, hot chocolate and oatmeal cookies!  I also got to try some Adidas supernova glide 6 boost sneakers.  I usually stick with New Balance, but I figured I’d give them a try.  The run was a bit snowy/icy, so it was hard to properly judge the shoe.  They felt fine on my feet, but they were a little heavier than I’m used to wearing.  I wouldn’t mind trying their adizero line, to see if the are a bit lighter.  I am in the market for some new sneakers in the next few weeks, so I’ll keep looking.

Thursday night my friend Martin and I decided to try South End Athletic Club Run Club.  They have a speed workout on Thursday nights, which I’ve been looking for since I started training.  It was another frigid night, but at this point we are kind of used to it.  We made our way over to Beacon Hill and did 6x1min hill sprints up Beacon Street.  It was a great workout, but definitely tough on the lungs and the legs.  I will definitely be back for more next week.

Saturday’s long run was rough.  All runners know, that some days you have it and some days you don’t.  Saturday, I definitely didn’t have it. I kind of knew once I got up that it was going to be a rough one, but it still had to be done.  My pace was okay and I got my 13 miles in, but it wasn’t pretty.  I was already counting down the miles when I got to the 3 mile marker.  I did see several friends (running with other teams) along my run, which did give me a little push at the end to finish strong.

Now we look forward to week 12 with more run club, November Project, Barry’s Bootcamp, the SuperSunday 5 Miler and several days in the double digits!!
