I’ve been trying to spread the news anyway I can…I’m running the 2014 Boston Marathon!!!! This has been a dream of mine for a very very long time. I know people who aren’t runners will never understand, but it’s one of those once in a lifetime sort of things.

Patriot’s Day (Marathon Monday) has always been one of my favorite days of the year. Even when I lived in NY I would take the day off and travel to Boston just to watch the marathon. Something about watching all those runners just fills you with excitement and joy and inspiration. On April 15, 2013 I was standing at the finish line when the bombs went off. I was there waiting for my friend Christine who was about 1/2 mile from finishing her 2nd Boston. The events and feelings of that day are still hard to put into words. It was so surreal.

In the days, weeks, and months that followed I found solace in the people of this great city. The Wednesday following the marathon I went to my first November Project workout. I’ve never been a hugger, but that day, it’s exactly what I needed. I’ve been going ever since, and I’ve met some of the nicest, most motivating people!

Over the summer, I got involved in a cross country relay to raise money for the One Fund. The One Run For Boston changed my life forever. I met some life long friends and was able to share my experience with others who had their own stories to tell.

I have wanted to run the Boston Marathon for years, I just never made the leap to actually do it.  Shortly after April 15, 2013 I decided that this was my year.  I applied to several teams and was lucky enough to get a charity spot with the Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts.  The charity raises money for their Get Moving Campaign which educates young girls on how to stay healthy and keep moving.  I am honored to have been chosen and hope that I can make my friends, family and the Girl Scouts proud!

I felt this was a perfect time to get back to my blog.  I want my supporters to be able to follow my progress, including training runs, healthy meal options and funny stories.  I have run 2 previous marathons, but never with a team and never with so many other runner friends to train with. Let the countdown begin!

Training Day 1 with Martin.  It’s nice to have a running partner that pushes you and makes you believe you can do it.  Just 2 weeks ago we were running a half marathon in 7 degree weather in NH (see photo above).  He stayed with me the whole way and pushed me just hard enough that I PR’d.  Today it was a tad warmer and we took a nice scenic run along the Charles.  We ran a bit farther than planned, but it was a great way to kick off our training.  One day down, 16 weeks to go…
